AC0 Magic Item – Smoke and Shadow

Name: Smoke and Shadow

Description: The Blade of Smoke and Shadow is an impressive longsword with a blade fashioned entirely from thick, black smoke. Though it doesn’t appear to be physically solid, it can slice through metal and flesh with ease. The handle is wrapped in soft black leather, with several large, obsidian gems embedded in it.

Mechanics: When wielded, the Blade of Smoke and Shadow increases the wielder’s stealth and darkness-related abilities. It has the unique ability to spread darkness in a radius of up to 20 feet, making it ideal for stealth operations or sneak attacks. Additionally, the blade only needs to touch an opponent to inflict damage. It’s effective against any creature, regardless of the armor they’re wearing or the protection spells they may have cast.

However, the Blade of Smoke and Shadow has a downside. It drains its wielder’s energy, requiring frequent short rests to recharge. Otherwise, the wielder can begin to feel weak and drained, making them feeble in combat.

The Blade of Smoke and Shadow deals 1d8+4 slashing damage when used as a regular longsword. However, when the blade inflicts damage via its unique ability to touch opponents, it deals 2d6 necrotic damage in addition to the regular 1d8+4 slashing damage. The necrotic damage is not affected by resistance or immunity to non-magical damage.
