AC0 Spells – Gilgah Blast

Level: 4th level

Duration: Instantaneous

Components: V, S, M (a small ball of slime)

Range: 60 feet

Classes: Wizard, Sorcerer

You summon a Gilgah creature and launch it towards your enemies. Each tentacle can attack a separate target within range, dealing 1d6 slashing damage + your caster level. If a target is hit by more than one tentacle, it must make a Strength saving throw or be grappled by the Gilgah creature.

The Gilgah creature disappears at the end of your turn, or if all of its tentacles are destroyed.

At higher levels:

  • When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the number of tentacles and damage dealt increases by 1 for each level above 4th.
  • Additionally, the Gilgah creature is resistant to non-magical damage after 4th level.
  • At 10th level the caster rolls a d6 to determine how many turns extra turns the Gilgah remains in the Prime Plane and attacking its target.

The Gilgah Blast spell begins with the caster grasping their wand or staff and chanting an ancient incantation. As they do, they focus their magic on a small ball of slime in their hand, which they use as the material component for the spell.

The caster then raises their hand / wand / staff and points it towards a group of enemies up to 60 feet away. With a sudden flick of their wrist, they unleash the slime ball, which grows and elongates into a grotesque creature with several tentacles around a ball-like base.

The tentacles are covered in powerful fang-like nails that wrap around each enemy within range and begin sawing and tearing at them. Each tentacle moves independently, seeking its own target and dealing slashing damage as it does.

As the Gilgah creature attacks, its movements are incredibly swift and unpredictable, making it difficult for enemies to dodge. If a target is hit by more than one tentacle, it must make a Strength saving throw or be grappled by the Gilgah creature, which can then continue to deal damage each turn until the target breaks free or all of the tentacles are destroyed.

At the end of the caster’s turn, the Gilgah creature disappears, returning to its previous state as a small ball of slime. The aftermath of the spell is often gruesome, with enemies left bloodied and wounded from the creature’s attacks.

For more experienced casters, the spell can become even more deadly, with more tentacles and increased damage dealt as the caster’s level increases. Additionally, the Gilgah creature gains resistance to non-magical damage, making it even more difficult for enemies to defeat.

The Gilgah Blast is part of 3 Spells created by the wizard Thalia Moonweaver. The Gilgah Blast, Gilgah Trap, and the Gilgah Guardian are the three spells in this series.

According to ancient texts, the Gilgah creature was first discovered by Thalia Moonweaver during her travels through the planes. She stumbled upon a mysterious portal that led to a dimension filled with strange, oozing slime. As she explored the area, Thalia encountered the Gilgah creature, which appeared to be a natural predator in this otherworldly realm.

Intrigued by its abilities, Thalia spent months studying the creature’s behavior and developing a way to summon it to her own plane of existence. She eventually perfected the incantation that would allow her to call forth the creature from between the planes, and the Gilgah Blast spell was born.

Through the years, the Gilgah creature became a coveted weapon among powerful spellcasters who sought to gain an advantage in battles with their enemies. Many theories exist as to why the creature is so effective, but most agree that its origins in an otherworldly dimension give it an almost unnatural strength and resilience.

Over time, the summoning of the Gilgah creature became more widespread, with many different variations of the incantation popping up in different parts of the world. Today, the spell remains a potent weapon in the arsenal of many spellcasters, though the knowledge of its true origins has been lost to time.
